The seventh Joseph and Eleanor Wolff Excellence in Care Giving Award was presented at Village Shalom to Nunu Segni Legesse, certified nursing assistant (CNA) in Shalom Suites 2/3. Legesse joined the Village Shalom staff in October 2005, where her responsibilities include working as a restorative aide. In that capacity, she assists residents with daily activities, exercises and personal-care routines such as bathing.

Tami Middleton, Director of Human Resources for Village Shalom, made the presentation, offering thanks to the Wolff family for making the award possible. “Eleanor Wolff was a Village Shalom resident for six years,” she explained, “and after her death, her sons established the Joseph and Eleanor Wolff Excellence in Care Giving Award to show their appreciation for the extraordinary kindness and wonderful care she received.” The award is given twice annually to an employee who provides direct care to residents in Village Shalom’s skilled nursing areas.
Candidates for the Wolff Award are nominated by co-workers, Village Shalom residents and their family members. Nomination letters on behalf of Legesse emphasized her compassionate nature and dedication to teamwork.
The spouse of a resident said, “Nunu cares for all the residents with a pleasant demeanor. She constantly exemplifies teamwork by helping other [co-workers] with resident care,” and training them by her example. “She always has a friendly smile.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Kelly Powell, Clinical Services Manager, who said, “She consistently puts the needs of Village Shalom residents first. She is passionate about taking care of residents with dementia, and their families appreciate the communication from Nunu about their loved ones. She goes above and beyond to make sure the residents have everything they need.”
Legesse received a check for $750 and a commemorative plaque in recognition of the honor. Her name also has been added to a permanent display at Village Shalom of Wolff Care Giving Award winners.
