The Wang Rehabilitation Center at Village Shalom offers Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy services to residents of Village Shalom as well as members of the outside community. Therapists in the Rehabilitation Department are committed to a consistent clinical approach that allows them to
Restore, Compensate and Adapt for loss of function and improve the quality of life for all patients.
The Wang Rehabilitation Center offers the following clinical programs:
Aquatic Rehabilitation: Uses warm water and the most sophisticated and up to date equipment such as the SwimEx Therapeutic Pool. Aquatic Rehabilitation can be extremely beneficial for a variety of conditions including arthritis, fibromyalgia, pain syndromes, balance disorders, total hip and total knee joint replacements, back pain, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and many more.
GEM Program (Geriatric Enhanced Modalities): Consists of innovative therapy tools and programs to enhance quality of life for seniors using the latest technology in modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation and short wave diathermy. Benefits of this program include reduced pain, decreased edema, improved contractures, enhanced muscle re-education, increased circulation, stronger muscles, improved bladder control, greater joint flexibility, faster recovery and improved wound healing.
Falls and Balance: Among older adults and retirees, falls are the most common cause of injury and trauma related hospitalization. Therapists at Village Shalom can assess fall risk in the older adult and provide them with a variety of treatment strategies to improve balance and minimize the risk for falls. A unique feature of this program is its potential appropriateness for every patient. In addition to addressing the restoration of lost function, this program provides a consistent framework for therapists to help residents compensate for the way they approach and accomplish a task, or to aid in the adaptation of the physical environment to improve the patient’s functionality.
Dementia Management: Our Dementia Rehabilitation program incorporates the use of the Allen Cognitive Levels. This program focuses on what the patient can do rather than what they are unable to do. By focusing on the patient’s strengths, a therapist can develop a program that capitalizes on those strengths and allow the patient to function at his or her best ability.
Medically Complex: A medically complex patient has incidence of several medical conditions, often with a cardiopulmonary component that significantly compromises the ability to function. Therapists at Village Shalom are trained in treatment strategies to maximize function and address all the needs of this population.
Orthopedic Rehabilitation: An interdisciplinary approach to treat residents with orthopedic problems, such as post-surgical interventions. An effective Orthopedic Rehabilitation program addresses patient function in the areas of mobility, safety and self-care abilities.
CVA/Stroke Rehabilitation: An interdisciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of individuals with recent history of CVA. Program addresses patient function in the areas of communication, swallowing/nutrition, cognition/perception, self-care abilities, and mobility. An effective CVA/Stroke Rehabilitation program allows patients to receive needed rehabilitation services in a less-costly environment.
Home Assessment: A Tran-disciplinary approach to evaluating a person's functional ability in the home to assure that the person can return home safely. It allows facilities to adequately prepare residents for discharge to home.
Contracture Management: A Physical and/or Occupational therapy program designed to prevent, minimize and reduce joint contractures through positioning, range of motion and splinting.
