How you can help
Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance cover only a fraction of the costs incurred in operating a senior-living community like Village Shalom. In order to continue providing the best possible care for our residents while meeting the needs of increasing numbers of seniors, we must rely on the generosity of donors. Every type and size of donation we receive ultimately has a direct impact on our residents and the quality of life they enjoy.
Grants, major gifts, planned giving and donations of tzedakah (charity) from families and individuals can be applied in a variety of ways, and can be given as a tribute to honor or remember loved ones:

Financial Assistance Fund
Village Shalom and our predecessor organizations were founded on the tradition of providing exceptional care to Kansas City’s senior adults, regardless of their ability to pay for services. Nearly one-third of the residents on Village Shalom’s main campus are recipients of more than $1.6 million in financial assistance each year. This fund subsidizes the care of residents who, without Village Shalom, might have nowhere else to turn.
Resident Programming Fund
This fund supports special events and entertainers, religious worship services (Jewish as well as other denominations), physical and intellectual fitness classes and opportunities individually tailored activities for specific resident needs, and the invaluable work of our volunteer program.
General Operating Fund
The General Operating Fund directs resources where they are needed most at any given time. Everything we offer to our residents — from our thoughtfully specialized facilities to our compassionate, caring staff — is enhanced by this important resource.
Resident Health Services, Equipment and Capital Improvement Fund
Village Shalom is in constant use, experiencing perpetual activity in every area. Therefore, we have an ongoing need for maintenance, improvements, equipment purchases and repairs, as well as advanced technologies that enhance every aspect of resident care and comfort. Contributions to this fund enable Village Shalom to maintain our status as a world-class facility and provide our residents with the finest health, rehabilitation and senior-living services available.
