28th Village Shalom Father’s Day Run a Great Way to Celebrate

Published:

Runners take off at the sound of the starting gun in the 2014 Village Shalom Father’s Day Run/Walk. The 28th-anniversary event takes place this year on Sunday, June 21.

Members of the Kansas City Jewish community, the regional running community and families who simply want a fun start to Father’s Day will be on hand at Village Shalom Sunday, June 21, 2015, for the 28th annual Village Shalom Father’s Day Run/Walk. The race begins at 7:30 a.m., with race-day registration opening at 6:00 a.m.

The 5- and 10-kilometer run/walk event is steered by the Village Shalom Associate Board, a group providing volunteer and leadership opportunities for young Jewish adults in the Kansas City area.

The Father's Day Run is an important fundraiser for Village Shalom,” said Lisa Stolper, who is co-chairing the race with Neil Miller. “It is a great opportunity for the entire Kansas City Jewish community to come together for a family event and raise money for an important purpose.

Proceeds from the race support Village Shalom’s programs and services for individuals and their families confronting the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.

“Village Shalom’s memory-care services would not be possible without the community’s generosity, and the Associate Board is thrilled to put on an event that helps to generate awareness and support year after year,” said Renée Polsky Silver, Associate Board president. “Plus, it offers so many other Father’s Day activities that families can enjoy together.”

In addition to the race, the event includes a Kids’ Fun Run, a children’s arts-and-crafts tent sponsored by U.S. Toy/Constructive Playthings, and a Chris Cakes pancake breakfast for race participants. (Non-participants can purchase a pancake breakfast for $5.)

Small but mighty, the 2014 Kids’ Fun Run rivals the Father’s Day Run 5/10-k for speed and excitement.

The Father’s Day Run is a major attraction not only for members of the Jewish community, but also for running enthusiasts from across the region. As an officially sanctioned race by the Mid-America Running Association, the event draws hundreds of dedicated athletes seeking to improve their race times.

“Race day is filled with so much excitement and so many activities,” added race co-chairman Miller. “We are looking forward to a great turnout – and most of all, a lot of fun.”
