Director of Nursing | MWeston@VillageShalom.org
They say if you do what you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. If that’s the case, Muriel Weston has been putting in some serious volunteer time throughout the years. Muriel joined the team as Director of Nursing in 2016 after holding a number of leadership roles in long-term care, assisted living and memory care environments. Muriel’s passion is caring for seniors – something she attributes to the close relationship she had with her grandmother, who was instrumental in her choosing nursing as a profession. For Muriel, caring for seniors is an opportunity for her to give back to her elders to help repay for all the love and wisdom that has been shared with her throughout the years.
Muriel earned her BSN from Graceland College, and later a master’s in health care administration from Webster University. She’s also a Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt, which means she can break through ineffective processes like a ninja through a stack of bricks.
Muriel has three adult sons – Terran, Hartzell and Zachary. Zachary lives in Nashville, and is busy starting his own commercial and fashion photography business. Hartzell is a DJ with a popular Kansas City radio station, and Terran and his wife Kim each have rewarding careers here in the KC area. Now that her boys are out doing their own things, Muriel can be most often found hanging with her four-legged bestie – a Westie named Duke.
Muriel loves art, theater and all types of music. (Hartzell had to get it from somewhere, right?) She’s also an avid Chiefs, Royals and Lee’s Summit West Titans fan. Muriel is very active with her church, where she volunteers with the Altar Guild. Other faves include catching a movie at the theater or a bargain at the mall. She’s also a former aspiring ballerina. Need an ice-breaker? Be sure to ask her about the time a neighbor boy chopped-off his finger when she was walking down the stairs in her tutu. We’ll leave you with that.
