VSU is a collaborative learning and teaching environment where volunteer professors instruct classes covering a myriad of topics.
Each summer our continuing-care retirement community transforms into a virtual college campus – this transformation is known as Village Shalom University or VSU.
Each “semester” of Village Shalom University provides an opportunity to discover something new. No subject is off-limits at VSU. Students take courses on the arts, history, wellness, finance, and more. There’s also Field Day, where residents square-off in fun events like bridge, trivia and a spelling bee for prizes and bragging rights. It’s truly a week like no other.
VSU has received recognition from RetirementHomes.com and the Kansas Activity Directors Association. It was also honored with the 2012 LeadingAge Kansas Excellence in Innovation Award.
“Village Shalom University combines the experiences and wisdom of individuals, the natural learning lab of the retirement community, and the dedication of many people to bring a new idea to life. It is an example that I hope will be emulated by other aging-service providers around the state and nation.” Debra Zehr, president and CEO of LeadingAge Kansas
The 2016 semester of VSU will take place the week of July 18-22. Details are coming soon!
