Michelle LaPointe Named Village Shalom Director of Philanthropy

Michelle LaPointe has joined Village Shalom as Director of Philanthropy & Community Engagement – taking over the leadership role for the Village Shalom Charitable Supporting Foundation. LaPointe will be responsible for Village Shalom’s major gifts, donor relations, annual appeals, and the oversight of events and all other facets of the organization’s fundraising efforts.

Michelle comes to Village Shalom from the Lyric Opera, where she worked as Director of Development for nearly 20 years. Michelle brings 26 years’ experience in the non-profit sector, and 35 years’ executive-level management experience with previous tenure at the National Kidney Foundation and Hallmark Cards. Michelle’s fundraising background covers a broad spectrum, with extensive experience with capital and endowment campaigns, major and planned gifts, and annual appeals.   

“Michelle is a top-notch fundraiser with a proven track record of success,” said Matt Lewis, Village Shalom President & CEO. “She is well-known in the Kansas City philanthropic community, and has established relationships with a number of Jewish donors. Her depth of experience in senior-level fundraising will be a true asset to the organization.” 

LaPointe has also served in a number of volunteer roles with area non-profits and community organizations. Michelle co-chaired the University of Missouri – Kansas City 75th Anniversary Celebration in 2008. She was the founding president of the Kansas City SIDS Board and the Kansas City Friends of Ronald McDonald volunteer service group.  Currently, Michelle serves on the Board of Directors for Heartland Men’s Chorus.

Michelle is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She has a son, Erik, a daughter, Alexandria, and two stepchildren, Nicole and Kirk.
