KCJMCA and the Kansas City Art Institute to Host ARTicipation: Sustenance – A Plate Glazing Workshop
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to glaze ceramics in a professional artist studio, the Kansas City Jewish Museum of Contemporary Art (KCJMCA) is offering just such an opportunity in a new partnership with the Kansas City Art
Institute to host the public program ARTicipation: Sustenance – A Plate Glazing Workshop on Sunday, June 30 from 1-5 p.m. in the Ceramics Department at KCAI.
Initiated by KCJMCA in partnership with KCAI, this one-day professional plate-glazing demonstration and workshop will be held in the Ceramics Department on the KCAI campus at 4415 Warwick Boulevard, Kansas City, Mo., during which participants will each receive a wheel-thrown, bisque-fired plate to glaze. Participants will receive special instruction on glaze mixing, application techniques and tools, and the firing process by celebrated artist Irma Starr and KCAI studio technician and lecturer, Tom Binger. All plates for this workshop have been wheel-thrown by professional artist and KCAI alumni Brock Deboer.
Individuals in this workshop will also share this professional studio environment alongside a variety of artists participating in KCJMCA’s 2013 UrbanSuburban Art Auction: Sustenance & Abundance. The auction will be held on Saturday, October 26, during which these artists’ plates will be made available for bidding and purchase.
