Personal connection is the strongest ingredient of a welcoming environment. Always extending a warm smile and soft hello, Danielle Weeks has spent the last seven years genuinely connecting with each resident she encounters as a program coordinator for the south-Overland Park Continuing Care Retirement Community. Village Shalom resident, Jack Sokolov, was chosen to represent Kansas in "If I Live to Be 100: The Wisdom of Centenarians", a book crafted by award-winning photographer Paul Mobley and author Allison Milionis and sponsored by Norman Lear. Sokolov was offered the opportunity after a representative from the book's publishing house saw him featured on Fox 4 News still exercising at 100 years old and recognized his unique longevity.

On July 14, Village Shalom Restorative Nurse Aide, Kim Green, received deserving recognition when she became the 21st recipient of Village Shalom’s Wolff Excellence in Care Giving Award. In her three years at Village Shalom, Green has always put the needs of residents above her own, providing them with the same level of care and compassion as she would a member of her own family. Eager to volunteer whenever a need is left unfilled, she covers as a CNA or scheduler – even in medical records and central supply. Always willing to go above and beyond, she will change her schedule for her restorative groups with residents when they need more care.
