On July 14, Village Shalom Restorative Nurse Aide, Kim Green, received deserving recognition when she became the 21st recipient of Village Shalom’s Wolff Excellence in Care Giving Award. In her three years at Village Shalom, Green has always put the needs of residents above her own, providing them with the same level of care and compassion as she would a member of her own family. Eager to volunteer whenever a need is left unfilled, she covers as a CNA or scheduler – even in medical records and central supply. Always willing to go above and beyond, she will change her schedule for her restorative groups with residents when they need more care.
Village Shalom continues to move forward with its plans for a major campus expansion. The project will increase the footprint of the south Overland Park retirement community by 50 percent. The plans include a new 48-residence free-standing memory care community, a four-story independent living apartment community, a repurposed short-term rehabilitation center with expanded therapy space, and a “Main Street” with dining and service amenities that will serve as the corridor from the new apartment community to the existing continuing-care campus. Construction is on-track to begin in early 2018, with completion set for the late summer of 2019.
The Epsten Gallery is pleased to present ARTicipation Pop-Up Studio 2017: Connections, an open-studio, art-making environment for audiences of all ages and abilities. The exhibit will run May 7 through June 30. The public opening reception will take place on Sunday, May 7 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Village Shalom resident Judith Perlman has been a member of the American Legion Band of Greater Kansas City for more than 35 years. When early onset Alzheimer's threatened to take it all away, a group of friends banded together to ensure that Judy's music didn't fade.
The award will be presented at the Ages of Excellence Celebration to be held on Nov. 16 at Intercontinental Hotel. Proceeds from the event provide financial assistance for Village Shalom residents.
