Village Shalom Father’s Day Run Offers Something for the Whole Family
The Village Shalom Father’s Day Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, June 19. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m., with registration and pre-race festivities kicking off at 6:00 a.m. The 5- and 10-kilometer run/walk is an officially sanctioned event of the Mid-America Running Association that brings hundreds of runners and community members to the Village Shalom campus each year. This will mark the 29th consecutive year for fundraiser that benefits the retirement community’s memory care programming.

“The Father's Day Run is a long-standing community tradition,” said Grace Slosburg, Village Shalom Development Associate. “It’s been making for a fun start to Father’s Day since 1987, and all the proceeds benefit a truly special cause.”
Proceeds from the Father’s Day Run help to fund programming for the Shalom Suites and Great Days Social Club – the areas of the Village Shalom campus that serve the needs of those experiencing Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The 2015 Father’s Day Run raised more than $48,000.
“Last year’s race set an all-time participation record,” said Slosburg. “We’re hoping to set a new one this year.”
The race continues to grow in popularity thanks to the great strides taken to ensure a fun time for the whole family. Those too young to take on the 5K can participate in the Kids’ Fun Run that immediately follows the race. Kids can also take in a delicious pancake breakfast from Chris Cakes, get their face painted, or compete for prizes in the U.S. Toy children’s game tent.
After the run, race participants can cool down with a cold one from the New Belgium Brewing Company or enjoy a post-race massage from F.I.T. Muscle & Joint Clinic. There will even be doggie pools on-hand for four-legged participants.
“The race is all about having a good time,” said Slosburg. “Whether you’re an avid runner or a casual walker, you’re going to be glad you didn’t spend your Father’s Day morning sleeping in.”
