Village Shalom resident, Jack Sokolov, was chosen to represent Kansas in "If I Live to Be 100: The Wisdom of Centenarians", a book crafted by award-winning photographer Paul Mobley and author Allison Milionis and sponsored by Norman Lear. Sokolov was offered the opportunity after a representative from the book's publishing house saw him featured on Fox 4 News still exercising at 100 years old and recognized his unique longevity.

Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, who voted against The Better Care Reconciliation Act, visited Village Shalom to discuss healthcare concerns with representatives from Village Shalom and the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City on August 7.
