At Village Shalom, our champions come in many forms.

Sometimes they’re volunteers.
Sometimes they’re caregivers.
And sometimes, they’re the people behind the scenes who make meaningful moments possible.

This month, we’re proud to spotlight a different kind of champion—those whose generosity is bringing innovation and joy into our Memory Support neighborhoods.

Turning Generosity Into Impact

Thanks to the support of the Jewish Community Foundation and donors Steven and Karen Pack, Village Shalom was able to introduce the Tovertafel—an interactive projection system designed for individuals living with dementia.

With the touch of a hand, a table comes to life.

Leaves scatter. Fish swim. Music plays.
Residents reach, laugh, and engage in ways that traditional activities don’t always make possible.

It’s a simple concept—but the impact is anything but.

Why It Matters

Meaningful engagement can be difficult for individuals living with dementia—but it’s incredibly important to their quality of life.

Because of this investment, residents in our Memory Support neighborhoods are experiencing more moments of connection, movement, and joy each day.

Moments of laughter.
Moments of interaction.
Moments where someone feels engaged and present.

And those moments matter.

A Lasting Impact

Since introducing the Tovertafel, it has become part of daily life in Memory Support.

It brings residents together.
It changes the energy in the room.
It creates opportunities for connection between residents, staff, and families.

This is what donor support makes possible—not just programs, but experiences that truly enhance everyday life.

Celebrating Our Champions

As part of our Summer of Champions, we’re proud to recognize the individuals and partners who help move our mission forward.

The generosity of the Jewish Community Foundation and Steven and Karen Pack is a powerful reminder that community support doesn’t just fund care—it transforms it.

And that’s what being a champion is all about.
