Compassionate Memory Care You Can Trust at Village Shalom

At Village Shalom, our Summer of Champions celebrates the people who make extraordinary care possible every day. For families considering memory care, those people matter most.

One of those champions in our Memory Care neighborhood is Lynette Plaisted, LPN, who has spent the past 10 years caring for residents in our community—and supporting the families who love them.

“I treat them as my own family.”

A Personal Connection That Shapes Her Care

Lynette’s work in memory support isn’t just professional—it’s personal.

After caring for a family member diagnosed with dementia at a young age, she understands the uncertainty, emotion, and responsibility families carry when making care decisions.

This person needs a lot of guidance… a lot of help… but at the same time, they don’t understand what’s going on around them.”

That experience guides how she cares for every resident—with patience, empathy, and deep respect for who they are.

What Families Can Expect from Memory Care at Village Shalom

When families begin exploring memory care in Kansas City, one of their biggest concerns is whether their loved one will feel safe, known, and truly cared for.

For Lynette, that starts with time and connection.

You’re actually able to deal with each individual… give them that time they deserve.”

That time allows her to build relationships, understand routines, and anticipate needs—creating a sense of comfort and familiarity for residents.

“This is their home. They don’t want to feel like you’re just rushing in and rushing out.”

Preserving Dignity, Independence, and Choice

Lynette believes every resident deserves to feel involved in their own life.

At Village Shalom, residents are empowered to make choices and remain active participants in their daily routines.

“They have that power to contribute in the quality of life that they want.”

This approach helps preserve dignity while providing the structure and support each person needs.

Supporting Families Every Step of the Way

Memory care is a journey that families don’t take alone.

Lynette sees supporting families as an essential part of her role—through communication, reassurance, and simply being present in difficult moments.

“We’re not only taking care of residents… we’re also taking care of their families.”

“Even a hug makes a big difference.”

A Village Shalom Champion

Lynette’s journey—from Certified Medication Aide to Licensed Practical Nurse in Memory Support—reflects both her dedication to her profession and her passion for caring for others.

This Nurses Week, we’re proud to recognize Lynette as a Village Shalom Champion—someone families can trust to care for their loved ones with compassion, dignity, and heart.
